I've been contacted by very many people about the proposed dog exclusion order (or dog control order to give it its proper name).
The proposal looks to exclude dogs from a large part of the recreation ground, require that they are kept on a lead on another part and allow owners to let their dog off the lead only on one small field in the complex.
The reason given is the amount of fouling by dogs that's not then cleared up by the owner.
For me the proposal is ridiculous. If there is a problem with dog fouling on the rec then it's contingent on East Dorset District Council to try to solve it using the legislation they have available first. The Council employs two dog wardens and yet, according to Corfe Mullen Parish Council, there has never been a prosecution of anyone for failing to clean up after their dog.
Before they introduce such draconian measures that penalise everyone, I think the Council should work with the responsible minority to identify and change the behaviour of the irresponsible minority.
