Lytchett Matravers & Morden |
|||||||
The village of Lytchett Matravers and its smaller neighbour, Morden, are situated in the countryside to the west of Poole. Lytchett Matravers Conservatives are active in the local community. We campaign for the retention of Lytchett Matravers library, against the local problem of fly tipping and against inappropriate development. On the subject of inappropriate development, we are particularly concerned about the possibility that large scale development may be imposed by the South West Regional Assembly on the land between Lytchett Matravers and Lytchett Minster. Lytchett's Conservative spokesman is Colin Gibb, who takes a lead in the Save Lytchett Library Campaign. Colin is standing for election to Purbeck District Council on May 1, 2008.
In 2006, Colin originally stood for election, despite being a relative newcomer to the ward of Lytchett Matravers and Morden. During the campaign, we were all shocked by the news that Dorset County Council planned to close most of the rural libraries in Dorset. In response, the residents formed a fighting committee and Colin was delighted to be selected to play a prominent role in the successful campaign to save not only Lytchett Matravers library, but also all of those threatened with closure. Colin's roots are in Dorset: he was born in Poole and as an employee of Hamworthy Engineering for over thirty years, he held a number of senior positions including directorships. Colin has become involved in local politics over the past three years simply because he is frustrated by the erosion of influence that we residents have over our own environment.
In addition, David Cross is also seeking election to Purbeck District Council this May as your Conservative candidate.
David has been a resident of Lytchett Matravers for a number of years. He is Vice Chairman of Lytchett Matravers Parish Council and Chairman of the Parish Council Finance Policy Committee. His professional background is in aircraft engineering and he has used this experience to good effect in working with the local Air Training Corps since 2002. Engaging with young people in the village, helping them find useful, local, employment and providing facilities for teenagers in particular are high on his list of priorities. David believes that proactive engagement with our young people will go a long way to reducing the anti-social behaviour we have sometimes seen locally.
